Allen Taken Down Eight Occasions as Late Interception Seals Fate of Buffalo in Loss to Texans

Very little clicked for the Bills' quarterback in a frustrating game Thursday night against the Texans.

Yet he came close to willing the Bills to a win before an late pick in the last moments sealed their fate in a close defeat.

The quarterback took consecutive sacks on the Bills’ final possession, leading to a fourth-and-27, but the Bills (with seven wins) gained 44 yards on a short pass from Josh Allen to Josh Palmer, who tossed a lateral to Khalil Shakir.

Following a pre-snap infraction created a fourth down situation for Buffalo, Calen Bullock intercepted the quarterback's pass at the Houston 9 with under half a minute remaining.

“We had a chance to win it there at the end,” Josh Allen stated. “Our team performed a good job of hanging tough and our defensive unit bailed us out a few instances. We’ve got find a way, and we didn’t.”

It was difficult for the signal-caller to get anything going on a evening he was brought down a personal-worst on eight occasions and pressured four other times. The QB passed for 253 passing yards with a pair of picks and zero scores after producing six touchdowns in a win over the Buccaneers last week.

“When they pressure our QB a dozen times, I don’t like that,” Buffalo's head coach McDermott said. “I disapprove of that statistic at all. It is not a healthy way to play and it isn't a good way to keep our quarterback healthy for the remaining games. We need to play better.”

Josh Allen was slow to rise after a sack in the opening two quarters. He said he was OK and that his shoulder “lost some feeling” after he landed on it in an awkward manner. He was questioned about being contacted so many times during the game.

It's unpleasant,” he remarked. “I encountered a couple myself. I need to be better at throwing the ball away. Too many times, I found myself losing ground.”

Allen surrendered 70 total yards on the eight quarterback takedowns. Anderson had 2.5 tackles for loss to top the Texans. His second one came when he nearly took Allen down near the scrimmage line, but he wriggled away and the defender rose and pursued him across the field to drop him for an 18-yard loss to force a punt in the third quarter.

The Bills competed for a second straight game absent receiver Coleman after he was once more a non-participant after he was late to a team meeting before their previous contest. He was earlier held out for the first series of a loss to the Patriots in Week 5 after also being delayed for a team session.

No change. We are taking it one day at a time,” the coach said. “I thought he had a better week, but we’re taking it step by step. It was not that it was ignored, but we went with the guys that provide the best chance.”

Shakir topped the Bills with eight catches for 110 yards and Cook had 116 yards and a touchdown.

The quarterback was disappointed that the Bills couldn’t execute down the stretch.

“Ultimately, we must perform, and we didn’t succeed of that this evening,” he said. “No matter the scenario and any circumstance, we need to discover a solution, and we didn’t.”
